Summer is in full swing and before we know it, it will be on its way out. Until then, you’ve likely been paying attention to how many people have been visiting (or not visiting) your website. If you’ve looked at your Google Analytics lately and have noticed a decrease in traffic, you’re not alone.

SEO Tips for Bringing Traffic to Your Website

Fortunately, all hope is not lost. Because at least 80% of a website’s traffic starts with a search, adjusting your SEO is a great way to begin. In reality, upgrading and focusing on your SEO is an effective way to increase traffic to your website this summer.

Go for keyword gold

If you’ve been in the game for a while, and even if you haven’t, you’re probably aware of the importance of keywords when it comes to driving traffic to your website. Keywords are crucial to increasing your traffic because they’re relatively easy to use and drive traffic to your website for free. And what’s not to love about that?

If you’re finding that your current keywords are fizzling out, it’s time to do a little research. Put yourself in the potential customer’s shoes and start searching for what they’re likely to search. Keep in mind that terms that are native to your field (aka jargon) may not be what consumers are searching for. If you end up getting stuck, you can find plenty of free keyword tools that will help you zone in on the current keywords that are relevant to consumers. Take a look at Moz, Google Keyword Planner, and Open Site Explorer.

Keep it fresh

You’ve heard this one before but that’s because it’s so important! In order to positively impact your site’s SEO, you need to be creating and posting fresh content. The search engines start to shuffle your site to the back of the list when it becomes stagnant and untouched. Spend some time each week, if not each day, creating and publishing high-quality relevant content.

Make your fresh content a balance of quality and quantity, though. If you focus on producing so much that your content lacks substance that’s not good either. Work new and relevant keywords into your fresh content and you’ll attract more visitors in no time.

Don’t forget about links

Using inbound and outbound links on your website is a great way to boost your SEO and attract more visitors. If you’re a little rusty on the difference internal links connect one page of your site to another page on your site. For instance, if you’ve published a new blog post, be sure to link it to one of the pages on your site. That way when people land on your blog, they’ll be even more encouraged to visit your site. Outbound links, on the other hand, involve you linking to expert sites in your industry. If you’re concerned that this will drive traffic away from your site, it’s actually the contrary. When you link to authority sites you demonstrate your knowledge and expertise, which lets you build trust with the consumer. Pretty smart, huh?
